Nomadland shall be honored by FIPRESCI, the Worldwide Federation of Movie Critics, in September.

FIPRESCI introduced Wednesday that it chosen Nomadland, directed by Chloe Zhao and starring Frances McDormand, as its greatest movie of 2021.

Nomadland beat out Thomas Vinterberg’s One other Spherical, Jasmila Zbanic’s Quo Vadis, Aida?, Radu Jude’s Dangerous Luck Banging or Loony Porn, and Alexandre Koberidze’s What Do We See When We Have a look at the Sky? for the honour.

Nomadland will obtain the FIPRESCI Grand Prix on the opening gala of the 69th annual San Sebastian Competition on Sept. 17. FIPRESCI didn’t award a Grand Prix in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zhao is the primary Chinese language director to win the FIPRESCI Grand Prix and the second Asian filmmaker to obtain the prize, following Korean director Kim Ki-duk, who gained for 3-Iron in 2005.

Nomadland opened in theaters in February. The movie has gained a number of awards, together with Finest Image, Finest Director for Zhao and Finest Actress for McDormand on the Academy Awards in April.
